The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, with the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office, announces Arthur Krupicz has been appointed by Director James Settelmeyer to serve as state historic preservation officer.
Krupicz succeeds Rebecca Palmer, whose 30 years of service and efforts have played a vital role in preserving the cultural and historical heritage of Nevada for future generations.
NDCNR also extends gratitude to Robin Reed, who has served as interim administrator since last fall. Her leadership, dedication and hard work ensured continuity and progress during the transition.
With Krupicz’s appointment, Reed will resume her position as deputy administrator. Krupicz will lead SHPOs efforts to identify, preserve, and promote Nevada’s historic and archaeological resources.
His responsibilities will include oversight of the state’s compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act, support for local preservation programs and Certified Local Governments, administration of federal and state grant programs, and collaborative engagement with Nevada’s 21 federally recognized tribes, local governments and public land management agencies.
Krupicz brings over three decades of experience in historic preservation, archaeology, and public service. He most recently served as the historic preservation specialist for the Nevada Division of State Parks, where he led preservation and compliance efforts across the state’s extensive parks system.
His earlier roles include serving as a review and compliance archaeologist with SHPO, a cultural resource analyst, and the founding director of New Mexico’s statewide site stewardship program.
Krupicz’s career includes federal grant portfolios, development of training programs, authorship of technical reports and historic resource assessments, and instruction in anthropology and cultural resource management at multiple Nevada colleges.
He holds a Master of Arts in anthropology from the University of Arkansas, and a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from the University of Maryland.
