The 1701 Group, formerly known as Assistance League Reno-Sparks, has voted Tammy Higgins as president for the 2025-26 fiscal year.

Over the past years, Higgins has led and grown the Read to ME Committee, which reads to preschool students at Boys and Girls Club locations.

In her new role, she will oversee the transition of the organization’s name to The 1701 Group and the construction of a 6,400 square foot philanthropic support building.

She will also oversee the Thrift and Gift on Vassar shop, which generates most of the proceeds that fund the 11 philanthropic programs of The 1701 Group.

Previously, Higgins was a first-grade teacher at Lemmon Valley Elementary, Whitehead Elementary, and Van Gorder Elementary.

She also has been a Weight Watchers leader for 12 years, a docent at the Nevada Museum of Art for seven years, and a Reno food tour guide for seven years.
