Carson City knows how to welcome restaurants. Guthrie’s, a chicken finger eatery, opened early Feb. 27 and by lunchtime they were slammed.
“It’s outstanding,” said restaurant co-owner Ronnie Boyles. “We’re tickled today. The customers have been great, and it’s been a good reception for us.”
The restaurant is located at 480 Old Clear Creek Road behind Costco. The Alabama-based chain specializes in chicken fingers.
“It is the brand’s second new location opened nationally in 2025 and its second in the state,” according to a Feb. 27 news release.
Boyles and his partners opened a Guthrie’s in the Las Vegas area last year. The Carson iteration represents the company’s first restaurant in Northern Nevada, with two more locations planned for this year, one in Silver Springs and one in Sparks.
Of the Northern Nevada market, Boyles said, “This area up here is super cordial. They have done more research on us, they know more about us, than any community I’ve been in.”
Another way to put it: Carson residents and those from surrounding communities love new restaurants.
“I’ll tell you one thing… they’re terrific!” said Franz Goepfert, South Lake Tahoe resident and self-proclaimed chicken finger expert.
Goepfert was with his spouse, Jeanne. They said they come down to Carson for medical appointments and to shop at Costco, and as they’d seen the restaurant being built in prior months, they had to try it when it opened Thursday.
Boyles said flying out of the kitchen on their first day was the “original box” with fingers, fries, coleslaw, Texas toast and a signature sauce. Asked what sets Guthrie’s apart, he said the recipe is from 1965 Alabama and has not changed.
“It’s a thrill to bring the world’s best-tasting chicken fingers and our signature Guthrie’s sauce to the capital of Nevada,” Joe Kelly Guthrie, CEO of Guthrie’s Franchising Inc., said in a news release.
Guthrie’s operates nearly 70 locations across 11 states and “is poised for continued growth with aggressive expansion plans set for 2025,” according to the release.
The Carson location has outdoor seating and a drive through. Boyles said business hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. He said the restaurant employs 35 people.
