The Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation is offering free pre-employment camps to help youth with disabilities transition from high school to post-secondary education and/or employment.
The 16 summer camps are designed for students with disabilities ages 14-21. Camps last one week and take place Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June through August in Carson City, Elko, Ely, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Pahrump, Reno and Yerington.
Pre-employment camps provide an interactive environment where students can explore new career paths, learn about educational opportunities, and develop a variety of skills to prepare for employment.
In addition to general pre-employment daytime and overnight camps, VR often offers specialty camps for youth who are deaf and hard of hearing, have autism or who are blind or visually impaired.
In collaboration with approved providers, VR customizes each camp to focus on five pre-employment services: Job exploration, post-secondary education counseling, workplace readiness training, self-advocacy, and work-based learning experiences.
Students may register for one camp per year online at https://forms.office.com/g/8uyVbirQhr. Students do not have to be VR clients to register. Registration for each camp closes one month before the start date.
