Carmax building Reno store
Carmax Inc., the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, is readying construction of a 40,000-square-foot store in Reno.
Construction of the store at 35 Auto Center Drive in south Reno is valued at $4.5 million, according to a Reno building permit.
A company spokeswoman said Carmax expects to open the store this autumn. It will carry an inventory of more than 250 vehicles.
The company typically hires between 50 and 100 people for its stores, and the spokeswoman said hiring begins a few months before the opening.
Headquartered at Richmond, Va., Carmax operates 129 used-car stores in 64 markets. In its most recent fiscal year, the company retailed 447,728 used cars.
