News Brief: Nevada State Contractors Board
The Nevada State Contractors Board disciplined two Northern Nevada contractors.
Hernandez Lawn Care & Landscaping, LLC, a landscape contractor based in Sparks, stipulated to charges of substandard workmanship and failure to include both the Residential Recovery Fund information and monetary limit or license number on a contract or proposal. The hearing will be continued to Oct. 18.
Michael D. Bell, DBA: Golden Bear Construction, a residential and small commercial contractor based in Carson City, was found in violation for acting in the capacity of a contractor beyond the scope of the license, conspiring with an unlicensed person to perform an unauthorized act, and failure to include the monetary license limit or license number on a contract or proposal. The licensee has 30 days to provide an updated financial statement or face suspension or possible revocation of its license. Licensee was fined $1,600 and assessed investigative costs.
The board also is warning home and business owners in the Reno and Sparks area to be aware of a group of unlicensed individuals offering roof repair services.
The group of five men deliver fliers by hand and fax to local residences and companies advertised as “Tony’s Roofing,” while work orders refer to it as “Toney’s Roofing.” The men may be operating in and around Fernley as well.
According to complaints received by the Board, the group negotiates cash deals for roof repair at a price substantially lower than what a legitimate contractor could charge. After receiving a large upfront payment, they begin dismantling damaged material from the victim’s roof. Though they promise to come back the next day to complete the roof repair, they fail to return.
Anyone with information on these individuals or other suspected unlicensed contracting activities should contact the NSCB Unlicensed Contractor Hotline: 775-850-7838 as soon as possible.
The Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Institute of Architects recently presented Hawkins and Associates with the 2019 Commercial Architecture Citation Award for Design Excellence for the renovated building.
