Sparks, Great Basin credit unions finish merger
Members of the Sparks City Employees Federal Credit Union voted to approve a merger of their institution with Great Basin Federal Credit Union.
The merger was effective June 8, and full conversion of the two credit unions’ data systems is expected on Oct. 31.
Great Basin will be the continuing credit union and will have 16,400 members and assets of more than $116 million after the merger. Sparks City Employees Federal Credit Union had $13.3 million in assets and about 1,900 members.
The three employees of the Sparks credit union have joined the staff of Great Basin.
The unanimous approvals Wednesday came despite state leaders promising to tighten up requirements for Nevada’s tax abatements and incentives for future companies.
