TMCC to offer new four-year logistics degree
Truckee Meadows Community College offers an educational pathway to success in logistics management through its Certificate, Associate of Applied Science and Bachelor of Applied Science degree programs. Fall enrollment is now open to potential and current logistics professionals seeking direct access to a four-year degree in a rapidly-growing sector of northern Nevada.
The logistics sector—wholesale trade, transportation and warehousing—already accounts for more than 12 percent of jobs in the Reno-Sparks metropolitan area. And, employment in the field is expected to continue climbing as technologically savvy Internet retailers join traditional distributors who are launching operations in northern Nevada.
“TMCC is working with representatives from leading local companies utilizing logistics to help recruit and train future employees,” said Marie Murgolo-Poore, Dean of the TMCC Business Division. “Over the years, the demand for professionals in this sector has increased. TMCC has established Nevada’s only four-year degree program to hopefully meet the demand.”
The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) and Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) have identified advanced logistics as a sector that is expected to drive growth in the Reno-Sparks area in the coming years.
“Many of the companies we’re working with have employees in the program,” said Murgolo-Poore. “In addition to classroom settings, TMCC offers evening and web-based class schedules for individuals to earn a degree in logistics management while still working.”
Job opportunities for students completing the bachelor’s degree program range from warehouse operations manager to purchasing and production manager to supply chain manager and logistics service salesperson, to name a few. The national average salary in the logistics field is $70,354, and some positions pay more than $100,000.
Fall classes begin on Monday, Aug. 28. For more information regarding the program, visit logistics.tmcc.edu.
