Youth employment expo set
Nevada JobConnect will host a Youth Employment Expo in Sparks on May 9.
More than 20 employers will accept applications from workers aged 16 to 21.
The event will run from 2-5 p.m. at Nevada JobConnect office at 1675 E. Prater Way.
Among participating employers will be Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Century Theaters, Big 5, Build a Bear, Jamba Juice, Kragen Auto, Girl Scouts of the Sierra NV, Denny’s Restaurant, John Ascuaga’s Nugget, Baker and Taylor, Wells Fargo Bank, Peppermill Casino, Round Table Pizza, Raley’s, Safeway and Target stores.
The introductory 80-hour program — announced in May as one solution to Nevada’s oft-lamented skilled labor shortages — is designed to train people in construction, building maintenance and related trades.
