About the speaker:
Doug Erwin is an entrepreneur with extensive experience creating and running business ventures. He started his first commercial venture while in still in high school. After receiving a degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Arizona, he went to work in Silicon Valley for Brio Technology, a Kleiner Perkins backed startup company in the business intelligence market. Shortly after Brio’s IPO in 1999, Doug left the valley and moved to Incline Village to align his passion for business and snowboarding with his next venture Seasonpass.com. He sold Seasonpass.com and formed IBA Group, a software development firm focused on web application development, which he ran until 2002 when he was approached to start a new business in the medical diagnostics space. Doug along with his co-founders launched Pria Diagnostics in late 2002 to commercialize a point of care diagnostic technology developed at Stanford University. As CEO of Pria, Doug raised over $8 million in angel and corporate financing, established a partnership with a $2B consumer products company and setup international partnerships in Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. Doug was highlighted in the Kauffman Thought book for the fundraising strategy at Pria and was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the State of Nevada in 2005. Doug co-founded Tahoe SUP in 2009, a company who designs and distributes a premium brand of stand up paddle boards and accessories. Tahoe SUP quickly established itself as the market leader in flat water SUP market and currently operates as Open Air Dynamics. Doug is currently the vice president of entrepreneurial development at EDAWN, a non-profit organization focused on economic diversification and job creation in northern Nevada. He mentors startup founders through the Summit Venture Mentoring Service and helps bring ideas worth spreading to Reno as an organizer of TEDx Reno.
