Virginia has not been ranked No. 1 since Ralph Sampson patrolled the lane in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers took a step toward their first top ranking in 35 years on Monday, earning 17 of 65 first-place votes from a media panel following wins over No. 18 Clemson and No. 4 Duke.
