The grandson of longtime state Sen. Lawrence Jacobsen, R-Minden, injured in a head-on collision earlier this week, was released from the hospital Thursday afternoon.
Matt Jacobsen, 18, suffered a broken leg and severe cuts to his face and underwent surgery Tuesday night. He was one of five Douglas High School boys hurt Tuesday when the Chevy pickup Jacobsen was driving collided with a Chevy utility truck in Minden.
Scott Sylvester, 16, a passenger in the other vehicle, was listed in good condition. The other three were treated and released from the hospital.
The accident occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at Dressler Lane and Mud Lake Road.
"He's doing pretty good, " said Betty Jacobsen, his grandmother and wife of Sen. Jacobsen. "His toughest part I think is going to be the recovery."
Betty said she saw the damage to her grandson's truck and it was a miracle everyone survived.
"All five kids were very lucky."
According to Trooper Troy Lindley of the Nevada Highway Patrol, alcohol was not a factor in the accident and no citations have been issued.
"The cause is still under investigation," he said.
