Bidders at the seventh annual auction to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada will be able to buy itemsn ranging from a $10 hair cut to a bronze sculpture valued at $87,000.
"It's the one event that we do in Carson City allowing everybody in the community to participate," said Cathy Blankenship, the club's executive director.
Blankenship hopes to raise around $125,000 at this year's auction, $5,000 more than last year.
She said the club raises about $300,000 or its $850,000 annual budget in Carson City. Nearly half of that is raised at the auction.
"We can rely on a lot of grants and foundations but if we do not have support from our community, we could not be here full time," Blankenship said. "We've been really lucky that our community has been so supportive."
The club served 1,700 members this year on its budget.
"That would be 1,700 more kids out on the street without supervision if we weren't here," Blankenship said. "It would cost a lot more on the other end if you had to deal with these kids through juvenile probation and other city services."
All items to be auctioned off were donated by members of the community. Smaller items will be included in a silent auction and 36 will be sold through a voice auction.
Among the merchandise to be sold in the voice auction is an all-terrain vehicle donated by Model Dairy and a motorcycle donated by Harley Davidson Financial Services.
The bronze sculpture was donated by the Ghiglieri Family Fine Art Trust.
Blankenship said there are still some tickets available for $50 and can be purchased by calling the club at 882-8820.
