Dayton advisory boards looking for community-minded candidates

DAYTON - Two Dayton advisory boards are looking for community-minded candidates to hand over their time for free.

Nominations for volunteers are needed for three positions on the seven-member Dayton Regional Advisory Council. Three positions on the five-member Mound House Advisory Council are also up for election.

Nominations will be accepted at the Dayton Regional Advisory Council's September and October meetings.

Elections for the two-year term will be conducted at the November meeting.

The two other open positions are Eldorado Lakes (District 7), currently represented by Ray Benefiel; and Mark Twain East (District 6), now filled by Terry Hall. Both individuals are eligible to run again.

Council by-laws limit terms by council members to two four-year terms. Council Chairman Shannon Wines, who is serving the last of her second term for River Village (District 5), is ineligible.

Anyone interested in serving should make sure someone from their district is present at the September or October meeting to nominate them. However, nominees will be chosen by the registered voters of the two Dayton precincts who attend the November meeting.

The five-member Mound House Advisory Council has three seats up for election this fall.

They include the at-large seat, held by Chairman Chuck Roberts; the Sierra View Estates seat, held by Larry Rickman; and the industrial area seat, filled by Gary Jenkins. All are eligible to run for re-election.

All registered Mound House voters may nominate candidates for the positions at the September and October meetings. Elections will be conducted in November.

Both boards establish their own by-laws and are advisory to the Lyon County commissioners. Commissioners must approve those elected in November.

The Dayton Regional Advisory Council meets at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month at the community center. The next meeting will be Sept. 6. For information call 246-5151.

The Mound House Advisory Council meets at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the fire station. The next meeting will be Sept. 5 For information call 246-5060.
