Inmate gets 17 years added to term for defrauding another prisoner

A Nevada prison has had up to 17 years added to his sentence for trying to defraud another inmate.

Randal Wiideman, 50, who is in the Lovelock prison, pleaded no contest to four felonies in a scheme which tried to have bail money belonging to another prisoner released to his son.

The victim was identified as Paul Haag, who had bail money owed to him from before his conviction. Dave Niedert of the Attorney General's Office said Wiideman filed altered legal documents supposedly on Haag's behalf which tried to have the bail money released to Wiideman's son instead of Haag.

Judge Richard Wagner said Wiideman has previously been sanctioned in several cases for his conduct and has been told he can't file lawsuits in Pershing County without Wagner's permission.

He criticized Wiideman, saying he filed fraudulent documents accusing the prosecutor, prison investigator and judge of having improper financial dealings with him.

Wiideman is already serving a sentence for crimes committed while at the Nevada State Prison, including falsifying legal documents to help inmates secure a new trial or release.

The new sentence will add a minimum of four years to the time Wiideman must spend in prison.
