Letter: Bypass project should not be left open-ended

Thank you so much for your synopsis of what is happening and has been happening to our bypass/freeway (and this baby is anything but free). This project is a perfect example of why it is imperative to never, never leave a project open ended, without a cutoff date of money.

If we, the voters, had said: OK, we will give you the 5 cent a gallon tax until November 2003 and not a month longer, guess who would be driving on our new bypass/freeway by November 2003? As it is, none of "the power players" feel any heat from us the taxpayers.

Taxpayers and money and voting are the right combination. We have taxpayers and money and left out the voting. Stupid of us and we are paying for it. Put a measure in the November election with a date for the money to turn off. Then we will see our bypass/freeway.
