Letter: Dirt bikers replace construction noise

When I bought my home about 10 years ago, I was well aware of the bypass to be built in the vicinity north of College Parkway between Emerson and Northgate.

When construction began earlier this year, it was like an adventure for me, since I am from a road construction family and accustomed to the noises of machinery and the dust that they make. At times my sleep was disturbed by early construction sounds but I adapted to that without a quarrel.

However, when the construction sounds came to a stop at the end of the working day, I was quite aware there was a different kind of noise invading my serenity; noises from dirt bikes.

We have had a very pleasant and long summer which makes most of us head for our outdoor living but, while just sitting and reading, playing cards or dining, the peacefulness was and still is being interrupted by the noises created by these bikers.

I have advised the authorities, the sheriff's department, but unless I swear out a warrant for this molestation of living, they can't seem to do much about this nuisance.

Since I do not know what kind of retaliation to which I could be subjected, I am not about to "swear out a warrant." My life, property and personal belongings are too dear to me and who knows what could befall me and mine.

I am a great supporter of freedom and sport activities, but I do feel that this situation should be dealt with within reason.
