Letter: Look beyond rhetoric for the best candidate

At election time, everyone running for office says they are for education, against crime, and care about senior citizens. It's critical for voters to look beyond the rhetoric on campaign literature and see what a candidate has really done to make a difference in those areas.

As Speaker of the Nevada Assembly and one of the members of the Assembly representing Carson City, I have had the opportunity to watch Bonnie Parnell in action. She has been an outstanding freshman legislator for Carson City and has earned your vote for reelection.

Because of knowledge and experience on youth and education issues, I appointed Bonnie as the only member of the Assembly to serve on the Commission on School Safety and Juvenile Violence. Bonnie worked closely with Carson City leaders to get legislation important to this community through the Legislature.

In committee and on the floor, Bonnie impressed her colleagues and others involved in the legislative process with her grasp of the issues and her independence. She has consistently demonstrated, through her voting record and constituent service, that she always puts the interests of the people of Carson City first.

Over the last 24 years, Bonnie has given a lot to this community through her work in the classroom, in the PTA, and as a volunteer. Because of her knowledge of the issues, her experience and her commitment, I hope you will give Bonnie Parnell your vote on Nov. 7.
