We support George Echan's reelection to the school board in Area 3 (Lake Tahoe). The reasons are simple.
He is committed to higher standards. He wants our kids to be able to go to the college of their choice. He wants those entering the work force to have the English, math, science and technological skills which will elevate them above minimum wage jobs.
George is about accountability. Raising standards meets resistance when it hits the classroom. He believes it is the job of teachers, administrators and board members to show the way, not destroy the effort with doubt and fear.
George is open-minded. While he will not compromise the mission of higher standards, he welcomes proactive suggestions to make the system better.
He is a long-time resident and community leader. He has served as president of numerous boards and is a former Douglas County Planning Commissioner. He is a known and successful quantity.
George's only concern is the Douglas County student. He does not buy into adult games of those with any agenda other than student achievement.
We support George's convictions and his no-nonsense leadership qualities.
