Obituary: Dorothy McIntyre

A funeral for Dorothy McIntyre, 67, a Carson City resident for the past nine years, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Walton's.

Mrs. McIntyre died Aug. 22, 2000 in Carson City. She was born in Clinton, Okla., to Alice and Guy Heap of Birds, Okla. She was a member of the Cheyenne Tribe.

She attended Haskell Institute in Oklahoma. She also attended and graduated from Cal State University in Hayward, Calif. with a masters degree in public administration. She also taught a class in Native American Studies.

Before moving to Carson City, she lived in Fremont, Calif.

Mrs. McIntyre worked in the Indian Education Program in the San Lorenzo, Calif. School District. She loved attending and dancing in the pow wows in the Bay Area. After moving to Carson City, she worked at the BIA in Indian Education until she retired in 1994.

She served in the U.S. Air Force from Aug. 9, 1951 to July 6, 1954.

Among her survivors are her husband Bryce of Carson City, daughter and son-in-law Chantel and Martin Costello and grandson Jason, all of the Bay Area and brother, Charles Heap of Birds.

Burial will be at the Fernley Veterans Cemetery in Fernley.
