Eldon Wayne Campbell, 80, a Carson City resident for the past 62 years, died Nov. 16, 2000, at Eagle Valley Care Center. He was born May 11, 1920, in Nebraska to Claude and Julia Mozby Campbell.
Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Nebraska.
He married Dorothy Fraser Humphrey Aug. 19, 1997, in Minden.
Mr. Campbell worked for John Harrah as a bingo caller on a boat off the shore of Venice, Calif. He went with Harrah to Reno to open Harrah's Bingo Parlor in 1939. He was one of the founders of Harrah's Casino Reno. He later became general manger of Harrah's Tahoe and then president of Harvey's Casino, retiring in 1983 after 23 years of employment. He was a past member of the Prospectors Club.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an engineer stationed in the Phillipines.
Among his survivors are his wife Dorothy; sons Jim of Carson City and Gary of Hazen; stepson Jim Humphrey of Reno; daughters-in-law Shelli Campbell of Carson City and Donna Campbell of Hazen; stepdaughter Sue Hansen of Gardnerville; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be at a later date.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
