Robber who posed as police officer sentenced to 30 years

RENO, Nev. - A man who posed as a police officer while robbing two young women in Reno has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Keith Hoover, 32, was sentenced Friday by Washoe District Judge James Hardesty.

Hoover had pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery and was sentenced to 15 years on each count. He will be eligible for parole in 10 years.

Deputy District Attorney Thomas Wilson argued Hoover was a threat to society, noting Hoover's nine prior felony convictions in Nevada.

Hoover and another man were accused of pulling over the two women July 26 in an apparent traffic stop after they had been speeding.

Wearing a cap that said ''police,'' he told the women to get out of the car and as they knelt on the pavement, he rifled the vehicle and took $400 in cash.

He was arrested two days later in Sparks following an altercation in which he was wearing the same hat.
