Army National Guard in Carson to fire cannon

Members of the Nevada Army National Guard will be firing a 75 mm cannon in front of their headquarters at 2525 South Carson Street this afternoon and again on Sunday.

Today's 3 p.m. firing is part of a practice for a ceremony to honor four retiring Nevada Army National Guard colonels.

Sunday's 4:15 p.m. firing will be part of the actual ceremony where Col. Ashley Hall, Col. Dennis George, Col. Phil Gustafson and Col. Miles Ceilo will retire.

Hall will be promoted to brigadier general at the conclusion of the 4 p.m. Sunday retirement ceremony honoring four senior officers.

Hall of Las Vegas has served as the state chaplain. He is a 35-year veteran of the Nevada Army National Guard. During his tenure as the state chaplain, he has worked with soldier care issues to include drug demand reduction, family readiness, recruiting and retention, health services and employer support programs.

Members of the Nevada National Guard are taking apart two Chinook helicopters for a trip to Iceland.

The two CH-47D Chinook helicopters from Det. 1, Co. G, are scheduled to loaded onto a C-5 Galaxy today for a trip to Naval Air Station Keflavik.

The unit will return June 15.
