Bus trips to begin between Reno and Carson City

Nine daily bus trips between here and Reno will start in August, under a plan approved by regional transportation commissions in both communities.

Exact bus stop location haven't been finalized. But the plan is to have a first bus leave Reno for Carson at just before 4 a.m. and a first bus leave Carson for Reno at about 5:30 a.m.

The last bus will leave Reno for Carson City at 5:20 p.m, and the last bus will leave Carson City for Reno at about 7 p.m.

Fares are one-way and are $3 for adults, $2 for youth and $1.50 for senior citizens and people with disabilities.

The Nevada Department of Transportation is picking up $250,000 of the estimated $456,378 annual cost. The Washoe County Regional Transportation Commission is paying $105,000 and the rest is expected to come from the fare box.

NDOT will put the bus route out to bid and will open the bids June 1. The agency also is negotiating with Douglas County to extend bus service south on U.S. 395, and there are plans to extend bus service between Carson City and Fallon and between Reno and Lovelock.
