Carson man in custody on threat charges

A Carson City man was taken into custody Wednesday evening on charges he threatened a man with a gun.

Investigators believe James Franklin Johnson, 18, pulled a .357 magnum on a man who apparently owed him a pair of shoes. Johnson and another man had gone to the man's home with the intention of retrieving borrowed clothing.

When the alleged victim failed to produce shoes, he said he was threatened with a gun and told by Johnson he had two days to pay for the shoes.

During an interview "Johnson stated that there was a gun in the car but that it had remained on the floorboard of the car until Johnson realized the victim had seen it, at which time he reached down and slid it back under the seat so it would remain out of view," the report states.

The friend who allegedly came with Johnson to the victim's door might be charged as an accomplice, the report indicates, although he confirmed Johnson's version of events.

Johnson is being held on $20,000 bail.
