Confusion reins in selection of nuclear commission

The Legislative Commission picked six potential members for the Nuclear Projects Commission on Tuesday.

The governor, who appoints all seven members of the commission, will select two names from the two lists of three candidates submitted by the Legislature.

When they started going through the proposed nominees, several members of the commission admitted they weren't familiar with several of the names.

Legislative Counsel Bureau Director Lorne Malkiewich told the commission he didn't have background on some of them and that he wasn't sure who nominated which individuals.

He said a letter was sent to all lawmakers asking them to submit nominees.

The first list consists of Steve Hill of Silver State Materials, Paul Workman of Bank West and Jess Bradley of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - all of Las Vegas.

The second list consists of Tom Warden of Las Vegas, former Secretary of State Cheryl Lau of Carson City and Jim Rogers of Channel 4 in Las Vegas.
