Fire district chief could be picked thursday

MINDEN - A new chief for the East Fork Fire and Paramedic districts could be picked Thursday night.

Douglas County commissioners, which also act as the fire and paramedic districts' governing board, is set to interview finalists for the job and make a decision.

Sixteen people, including three from Douglas County, applied for the job that Jim Reinhardt left in May. Reinhardt retired after five years with the district.

County Manager Dan Holler said after the application period closed that seven of the applicants came from Nevada, while others live in California, Florida, New Mexico, Illinois and Washington state. He could not be reached to confirm if any of the applicants have withdrawn.

The Douglas County candidates include East Fork Fire captains Terry Taylor and Tod Carlini and Bruce Van Cleemput, assistant fire chief in the Tahoe-Douglas Fire District. The other Nevada applicants are from Carson City, Reno, Jackpot and Dayton.

Three groups comprising volunteer fire chiefs, county staffers and professionals from other agencies were scheduled to interview the applicants Tuesday. They will recommend their top choices to the county commission for final interviews.

The fire chief job has a salary range of $49,961 to $68,099. Since Reinhardt's departure, the deputy chiefs have been sharing acting-chief duties.
