Fransway files against Marvel in Assembly District 34

Tom Fransway of Winnemucca filed Wednesday for the Assembly seat held by veteran John Marvel.

Both men are Republicans, as is Kimberlie Davis, who filed Monday.

Fransway is a lifelong Nevadan whose father, Tom, served 12 years in the Nevada Senate ending in 1972. He is completing two terms on the Humboldt County Commission, sits on the county hospital board and chairs the state Land Use Planning Council.

Fransway said he has helped Humboldt County cut taxes while maintaining services and still build up dollars to help get the county through the economic downturn caused by problems in the mining industry.

"We took a hit on mining," he said.

He said he disagrees with the tax petitions being circulated by teachers and State Sen. Joe Neal, D-North Las Vegas.

He said he has some opinions on education he will present during his campaign and "frankly, they aren't all that complimentary."

Fransway, 51, is a longtime employee of Nevada Bell in Winnemucca. He is challenging Marvel, who is the senior Republican in the Assembly seeking his 12th term.
