Indian Hills residents support community center plan

INDIAN HILLS - Residents say they want a proposed community center to be a basic, multi-use building that won't prevent a potential tax cut.

Indian Hills General Improvement District Trustee Steve Weaver, who is leading efforts to build a small community center for the area, said the directions came from surveys sent to the district's 1,100 water and sewer customers.

Weaver said 184 customers answered the 12-question survey, which sought comments on what a community center should include. Preliminary plans call for the center, which would also include space for a district office, to be built near James Lee Park. Specific costs and size haven't been determined. Weaver predicts the center will be 5,500 to 6,000 square feet.

Trustees will be looking at giving more direction to the architecture of the center as part of its meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at the district office, 924-D Mica Drive.

The architect JP Copoulos has been hired to design the center.
