I was disappointed reading in the Oct. 9 Appeal that the citizens of Elko County backed down and will not reconstruct South Canyon Road along the Jarbridge River because of a restraining order issued by U.S. District Judge David Hagen.
"Backed down" is a euphemism for knuckling under to an oppressive federal government.
Assemblyman John Carpenter is quoted as saying, "We will not break the law. The work party has been canceled." Mr. Carpenter should consider that it is not he and his Nevadans who are breaking the law but the federal government. The land belongs to Elko County. Refer to that little-read masterpiece, the Constitution.
