Lewis' stalker arrested on same charges

LAS VEGAS - Even prison may not have deterred entertainer Jerry Lewis' stalker.

Gary Benson, 56, who was freed from a Nevada prison in September after a six-year sentence for stalking Lewis, was arrested in Wyoming Friday, accused of stalking Lewis again.

Lewis received an April 5 letter that said: ''Dear Jerry. Your dead. Your friend, Gary Benson,'' the FBI said Friday.

Authorities believe Benson, of Sheridan, Wyo., sent the letter because it had a Casper, Wyo., postmark and was delivered to Lewis' Las Vegas home by the U.S. Postal Service.

Benson is charged with one count of aggravated stalking and one count of violation of an extended protective order.

Attempts to reach Lewis for comment Saturday were unsuccessful.

In September, Lewis was issued an extended protective order against Benson, protecting him from any form of harassment, stalking or aggravated stalking.

Benson pleaded guilty in May 1995 to aggravated stalking, a felony. He initially was sentenced to probation, but was ordered to prison after continuing to harass Lewis.
