New Dayton center on the move

DAYTON - A freshly graded lot along Highway 50 in Dayton is about to become a new shopping complex.

Architect Richard Heim said construction of a 4,800-square-foot commercial building will begin as soon as permits are issued.

"Within a week or two we should be receiving our building permit from the county," Heim said Tuesday. "If all goes well, we hope to have it ready for occupancy by the middle of May."

Owned by Julian Smith, the property is within the Comstock Historic District on the corner of Highway 50 and Second Street. Two tenants for the three- store building are already set.

"The Pizza Factory and Dick's Cleaners are set to go. There has been some talk of a donut shop for the third space, but no one has come forward at this point," Heim said. "The pizza parlor owners would like to move in right now."

Heim said the building design has been approved by the historic district commission, but the sign is still being worked on.
