Obituary: James Randolph

James R. Randolph, former president of Western Nevada Community College, died Thursday in Las Vegas.

Randolph, 58, moved from Carson City to Las Vegas in 1988 where he was the interim vice chancellor for finance and administration of the University and Community College System of Nevada.

A native of Pennsylvania, Randolph earned his bachelor's degree in industrial arts and a master's degree in industrial education from Illinois State University. He earned a doctorate degree in vocational-technical education administration from the University of Missouri.

Prior to serving as president of WNCC, he was also president of Wilkes Community College in North Carolina, College of Eastern Utah and Southern West Virginia Community College.

Randolph is survived by his wife, Caroline; sons Chad and Adam; and father, Carl.

The family asks any donations be sent to the Ormsby Association for Retarded Citizens in Carson City or to the Opportunity Village in Las Vegas.

Services will be 11 a.m. Jan. 15 at the Wilkesboro United Methodist Church in Wilkesboro, N.C.
