Obituary: Virgil T. Heath

A graveside memorial service for Virgil T. Heath will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Genoa Cemetery, with a reception following at the Hafele residence.

Mr. Heath died March 29, 2000. He was born in 1906 in Ashwood, Ore.

He graduated in 1937 from Oregon State School of Forestry and in 1945 from Princeton University School of Military Government.

He married Marion Ryan in 1944.

Mr. Heath was a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy, serving in Okinawa, North Africa and Dutch Harbor during World War II.

He had more than 30 years of service with the federal government, working as Division Supervisor for the U.S. Forest Service in Alaska and was a member of the Alaska Yukon Pioneers; State Supervisor of Timber Resources for the state of Oregon; Assistant Chief Forester in Washington, DC. and Program Coordinator for the Bureau of Land Management in the states of Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion, and son, Richard.

Among his survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Walter Hafele and grandsons, Anton Hafele, of Seattle, Wash. and Andie Hafele.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary, Minden, is in charge of arrangements.
