Riegle nominated for federal judge

WASHINGTON - The White House has nominated U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Linda B. Riegle as a U.S. District judge for the District of Nevada.

"She broke the glass ceiling in the Las Vegas legal community by becoming the first female partner in her firm and has spent her professional life serving the Las Vegas community," said Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev.

Riegle was named to a 14 year term as bankruptcy judge for Nevada in 1988. Prior to that post, she practiced commercial law and bankruptcy law for Lionel sawyer & Collins in Las Vegas.

As senior senator for Nevada, Reid recommends names to the White House for potential nomination to the federal bench. President Clinton nominates the selection and the Senate confirms the new judge.
