Stanford biologist recipient of 2000 Nevada Medal from DRI

RENO, Nev. - A Stanford University biologist has been chosen this year's recipient of the Nevada Medal awarded by the Desert Research Institute.

Harold A. Mooney will receive the award during ceremonies March 28 in Reno and March 30 in Las Vegas.

DRI President Stephen Wells said Mooney's research has led to new ways of analyzing how plants respond to their environments and understanding the role nature and people play in affecting environmental change.

Mooney will receive a minted, pure silver medallion and a $10,000 prize.

Mooney is the Paul S. Achilles Professor of Environmental Biology at Stanford. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and past president of the Ecological Society of America and the American Institute of Biological Sciences.
