Topaz Lake offers workship at park

Learn about trail building, wildlife and natural history on Wednesday at Topaz Lake Park during an all-day community service workshop on the lake's future, hosted by the University of Nevada, Reno's Nevada Conservation Corps.

The public can join 30 members of the corps, most university students, as they learn trail building and attend classes about how trails relate to conservation and recreation.

Community participants will be admitted free for both day use and overnight camping at the park in Douglas County, 22 miles south of Gardnerville.

The workshop is from 9 a.m. to evening and will conclude with two evening lectures and a slide show. Bring food, sunscreen, comfortable clothing, sturdy shoes and a hat.

Craig Burnside, Douglas County Parks and Recreation Superintendent, will discuss the future of Topaz Lake.

Nancy Goldberg of the Wild Animal Infirmary for Nevada Great Basin Observatory will discuss species conservation and animal rehabilitation.

Friends of Nevada Wilderness will present a visual tour of Nevada's wilderness areas in a slide show.

Call the Nevada Conservation Corps, 784-1192.
