Tree trimming underway

Sierra Pacific Power Co.'s tree trimming program in Carson City is under way, said Terry Saunders, line clearance administrator for the utility.

Tree trimmers contracted by Sierra Pacific began trimming branches near power lines in the west Carson City area March 1. The utility trims trees near power lines on a regular basis throughout the Northern Nevada area to prevent electrical outages and eliminate safety hazards.

Saunders said branches near power lines along the following streets will be trimmed over the next two weeks: Martin Street, Poplar Street, Crain Street, Crest Drive, Circle Drive, Sharrow Way, Coral Way, San Marcus Drive, South Richmond Avenue, Hillcrest Avenue and Elm Street.

State law requires the minimum clearance space must be maintained between trees and power lines. The clearance space varies according to the voltage of the power line.
