New members of the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs

New members of the board of directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada reflect the kind of leadership on which the organization depends.

"We survey our board strengths and weaknesses to determine what sector of the community we need representation in," said Executive Director Cathy Blankenship. "Then we seek out those individuals who are proven to be dedicated and hard working."

-- New board member Chuck Byrne, CEO of Hytek Microsystems, wanted to provide a positive and rewarding choice to young people. Byrne has an extensive background in administrative and executive positions in the aerospace industry, communications, scientific instruments and electronics. He has served as director and officer of the Eagle Valley Men's Golf Club.

-- Gail Hand, a resident of Carson City since 1974, said she and her husband searched for an organization in an effort to give something back to the community. A registered nurse, Hand does seasonal nursing in the area. She said she is interested in doing other activities through the organization.

-- Randy Kuckenmeister, owner of Kuckenmeister, Bayliss, Casey & Allen, LLC, believes a top-notch facility for the youth of Carson City will keep them active when parents are at work and the children are not in school. Kuckenmeister, former president of Carson girls' softball and a former secretary of the Rotary Club of Carson City, received his business degree from the University of Nevada, Reno, and his master's degree in taxation from Golden Gate University.

-- Anthony Roman, vice president of Business Banking Group, Wells Fargo Bank of Nevada, has a specific interest in wanting to help at-risk children become aware of their potential to become a success. The father of five also wants to provide activities for young children to challenge their minds and bodies. Roman will bring financial expertise to the board.

-- Attorney Jason Woodbury, a 1998 graduate of the University of Utah School of Law, wishes to help instill a positive value system in young people, encourage social interactions between young people, and contribute to their physical fitness.

The Board of Directors is comprised of 25 members serving one-year terms and volunteering on different committees. At the end of each year, the Board Development Committee evaluates all board members. Once elected to the Executive Committee, board members then serve in leadership capacities for five years.
