Country-western singer Lacy J. Dalton will perform a benefit concert Saturday for the Boys & Girls Club of Mason Valley and the Arts in Education Projects of Yerington Theatre for the Arts, both in Yerington.
The second annual Western fund-raiser will also feature cowboy poet Richard Elloyan.
Boys & Girls Club site director Travis Crowder said it was through Susan Rogers, director of the Yerington Theatre for the Arts, they procured Dalton for the benefit.
"She's (Rogers) very connected with the arts and musicians through her job," said Crowder.
"Lacy's done a lot of benefits and fund-raisers for cultural activity. Susan made contact with her or her agent and Lacy gave us a fantastic deal for the concert."
A silent auction will start off the evening's activities and feature antiques, fine art, weekend get-away packages, hand-crafted items and more. A steak dinner will be held after the auction. The concert is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Crowder said proceeds will be split evenly between the theater and the boys and girls club, for youth programs at the theatre and programming for youth development at the club.
"Last year we made about $12,000 each," Crowder said. "We hope to get -- under these trying times, which are understandably so -- the same amount.
"If we hit the mark of what we made last year, that would be fantastic. These dollars are so important, we can put them where we need them, like general operating dollars.
"We (theatre and club) do things together all the time. They are a wonderful organization. We each get great support from both of our boards."
Both performers for the benefit have made Northern Nevada their home. Elloyan has appeared on many occasions in Yerington and is a local favorite. Raised in Virginia City, Elloyan now calls Dayton home.
Old stories heard growing up on the Comstock and the natural beauty of the high desert are the inspiration for his work. Elloyan's songs and poetry reflect his love for the land and its lifestyle.
Dalton made a recent move to the Comstock area to a small ranch near Virginia City. She sings what she believes, choosing lyrics with a message that will bring a new awareness to her audience.
Dalton has enjoyed great popularity with her fans, numerous awards and gold records in addition to critical acclaim throughout her lengthy career.
From the moment she caught the public's attention, her soulful delivery has been a mainstay of country music. Among her many hit singles are "Crazy Blue Eyes," "Takin' it Easy," "Dream Baby," "Hillbilly Girl with the Blues" and "16th Avenue."
