MINDEN -- A Carson City man accused of killing his estranged girlfriend's father was in court Wednesday as attorneys set a date for a hearing to determine if the prosecution has enough proof to go forward with a trial.
Christopher Alan Fiegehen, 23, is charged with four felony counts -- murder with use of a deadly weapon, attempted murder with use of a handgun, burglary and home invasion -- in a Feb. 10 rampage at the Johnson Lane-area home of Al and Lorelle Chorkey.
Al Chorkey died from knife wounds he allegedly suffered at the hands of Fiegehen. Lorelle was shot in the head and survived.
Investigators believe Fiegehen climbed up the balcony of the couple's Minden home and shot Lorelle when she confronted him. Alan apparently came to his wife's aid and was attacked by Fiegehen with a knife, they say.
Lorelle was able to call 911 and told the operator that she had been shot and that her husband was fighting with the attacker.
When police arrived, they found Lorelle lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head. She identified Fiegehen as her attacker, the FBI said. Al Chorkey was dead on the porch of the home.
Defense attorney Richard Young of Reno and prosecutor Mark Jackson estimated at least two days would be needed to hear from nine state's witnesses in a preliminary hearing set for June 27.
After two months as a fugitive, a national manhunt and two profiles on "America's Most Wanted," Fiegehen was arrested by Vincennes University campus police in Indiana as he walked along railroad tracks there on April 9.
Whether the prosecution will seek the death penalty has yet to be announced.
