A graveside service for Robert H. Staikoff Sr., 85, a Carson City resident, will be at 11 a.m. May 16 at the Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Fernley with full military honors.
Mr. Staikoff died May 12, 2002 at his home. He was born Feb. 13, 1917, in Chicago, Ill., to Henry and Pena Radeva Stikoff.
Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Oakdale, Calif.
Mr. Staikoff was career military. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed on the USS Mississippi. He also served on a mine sweeper patrolling the East Coast. He was responsible for sinking a German U-Boat off the New Jersey Coast during World War II. He later transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard, spending a total of 32 years in the military.
He was a life member of the Elks Club and the National Rifle Association. He also enjoyed bowling and participating on bowling leagues.
He was preceded in death by a brother, George in 1997.
Among his survivors are his wife Irma of Modesto, Calif.; son Bob of Carson City; daughter Suzan P. Kimber of Bremerton, Wash.; stepdaughter Cordella Kruml of San Diego, Calif. and six grandchildren.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
