Broadband supplier quits business

Unable to recover from the loss of a

major customer, a northern Nevada

wholesaler of broadband services has filed

for bankruptcy protection.

Western Pacific Telecom Inc. filed a

Chapter 7 bankruptcy petition on Nov.

15.

Tony Prestigiacomo, president and one

of the founders of the company, said a

major customer went out of business,

leaving Western Pacific Telecom holding

the bag for more than $150,000.

"We had a judgment against them, but

there was nothing to collect," he said last

week.

Other customers also disappeared as

the telecommunication industry continues

to shrink dramatically, and Prestigiacomo

said his company chose to wrap up its

business.

At the time of the filing for bankruptcy

protection, the company headquartered

in Incline Village had only two employees.

Western Pacific Telecom, founded in

late 1997, sold broadband service to

Internet service provides,Web content

firms and companies seeking dedicated

telecommunications lines.

Prestigiacomo said the company has

arranged to transfer its customers to other

providers of broadband service.
