Amber Alert Plan committee set up

Gov. Kenny Guinn said Thursday that Nevada's Statewide Amber Alert Plan committee has been formed.

The Legislature, led by Assembly Speaker Richard Perkins, D-Henderson, the deputy police chief in Henderson, created the alert system to help find and return abducted children.

"Today, we have an outstanding plan that was written in partnership with local and state law enforcement agencies together with Nevada's broadcasters," said Guinn.

"After more than a year of local training, review and testing, we are ready," he added.

In addition to the 10 members the governor appoints - all from law enforcement - the committee has two members named by the Nevada Broadcasters Association: Bob Fisher, president of the broadcasters association who will serve as chairman; and Adrienne Abbot, state chairwoman of the Emergency Alert System.

Guinn's appointees are:

Douglas Sheriff Ron Pierini, Washoe Sheriff's Deputy Michelle Youngs, North Las Vegas Police Capt. Joe Chronister, Henderson Police Lt. James Green, Metro Capt. Teresa Lesney, Nevada Division of Investigation Chief Philip Brown, Nevada Highway Patrol Capt. Jacquelyn Sandage, State Adjutant General Gen. Giles Vanderhoof, Brian Kunzi of the attorney general's office, and Amy Wright, chief of the state Division of Parole and Probation.
