Police find 97 pounds of pot in two raids

TRUCKEE -- Police found 97 marijuana plants and about 7 pounds of packaged marijuana in two raids this week.

At 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers served a warrant on a home in Glenshire after officers received a tip about marijuana growing.

Dionna A. Henderson, 25, and Timothy Guzzardo, 26, both of Truckee, were arrested after officers found 38 marijuana plants and packaged marijuana in the Manchester Drive home, said Sgt. Dan Johnston of the Truckee Police Department.

Half an hour later, officers served another warrant at a home in Tahoe Donner, where officers found 59 marijuana plants "in a pretty sophisticated marijuana grow," Johnston said.

Peter Henderson, 38, of Truckee and Mammoth Lakes, was booked on cultivation of marijuana charges. The other resident of the Ramshorn Drive house was not home, but officers will attempt to make contact with him, Johnston said.

At the Glenshire home, full-grown marijuana plants and "clones" -- clippings of an adult plant used to form new ones -- were found, along with 6.9 pounds of packaged marijuana.

Johnston said a pound of marijuana is worth about $3,000 to $4,000, depending on the quality.

"There was a 3-year-old inside the house, and that child was taken from the mother and placed with Child Protection Services," he said.

Henderson was booked on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana and child endangerment. Guzzardo was booked on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana. Their bail has been set at $10,000 each.

"The mother did claim a Proposition 215 exemption, which is the medical marijuana exemption," Johnston said. But because of the amount found in the house, Johnston said he believes it was for sale.

He said the medical marijuana exemption allows a person to possess a maximum of 1 pound.

A Nevada County Sheriff's Office deputy said Peter Henderson and Dionna Henderson are not related.

Truckee police worked with the South Lake Tahoe/El Dorado County Narcotics Task Force.
