Col. J.A. Hardin, one of Nevada's cattle kings and father of Assemblyman Hardin, is at the Ormsby House. W.N. McGill of White Pine, one of the principal owners of the Monitor Mine in the Taylor District, is also at the Ormsby House.

100 YEARS AGO

Since the snow fell, a number of horses and animals have been allowed to roam and pick a living. Some are in distressing condition, and the owners should either provide for them or else be deprived of the animals. If a man can't feed an animal, he has no business with it.

Following a paralytic stroke, Arnold Klaus, brother of county commissioner William K. Klaus, dies in Berkeley. He was former county recorder and auditor of Storey County, arriving from Switzerland in 1874.

50 YEARS AGO

Son Marvin Oliver Brown born in Reno on Feb. 9 to Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Brown of Carson City. They have three other boys, Robert Oliver, Paul Anthony and David Martin.

20 YEARS AGO

Sen. Paul Laxalt, R-Nev., a close friend of President Reagan and general chairman of the Republican National Committee, accepted the top GOP post to do everything to ensure the president's re-election.

10 YEARS AGO

Gardnerville -- Adele Guantonio was installed as president of the Carson Valley American Association of Retired Persons during its annual installation dinner at Sharkey's Casino. Justice of Peace Doug Struthers is president.
