Contest marks new era for Fernley chamber

The Fernley Chamber of Commerce has launched a contest for a new logo, and officials hope the new logo demonstrates a renewed commitment by the business group.

The 250-member chamber includes companies ranging from Amazon.com which runs a big distribution center in the community to one-person shops.

The new logo needs to reflect history, growth and commerce in Fernley, said Chamber President Ellice Carlson.

The winner of the design competition will receive a month of free exposure on the chamber's web site, which is found at FernleyNVchamber.com.

Carlson said the new logo is part of a campaign to reinvigorate the organization.

Chamber volunteers, for instance, are working to spruce up the exterior of the chamber's building.

They're also looking for ways to increase the amount of support the chamber provides members.

That support ranges from distribution of business' brochures in the chamber office to links from the organization's web site.

The chamber's big job this year, Carlson said, is working with other community organizations to erect welcome signs at the entrances to the Lyon County town.

For information about the logo contest, contact the chamber at 575-4459.

The group's next meeting is Wednesday at the Silverado Casino.
