Reward offered in newspaper machine vandalism

A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals involved in the theft and vandalism of Nevada Appeal vending machines.

Two Nevada Appeal racks and a pair of Reno Gazette-Journal newspaper stands were stolen from the corner of Winnie and Carson streets Monday night.

The machines were later recovered, but were damaged beyond repair.

Appeal circulation manager Jerry Byrne said it will cost about $350 to replace each machine, which contained little money when they were stolen.

"We collect the machines frequently," he said. "There was very little money in there. I don't know if there were more than a couple of dollars in there."

Anyone with information should call the Carson City Sheriff's Department at 887-2020.
