Washoe Health updates its network technology

Washoe Health Systems recently purchased a new content management system to help it meet new federal guidelines.

A content management system is used for storing and creating online documents.

The Reno-based health care system plans to use Stellent Inc.'s content management system on its intranet - the internal corporate network employees use to access information such as personnel handbooks, benefit guidelines and other company information.

The system uses the same protocols as the Internet and web - such as HTML and XML so users use common web browsers to access it.

It is designed to be simple enough that any employee can view and create documents without the help of a web developer or designer.

Washoe Health said the Stellent system will enable it to meet Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations mandates for patient safety and medical error prevention as well as keep up to date on compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, the federal act to guard patient privacy that requires sophisticated technology for compliance.
