Comstock critic thinks a shabby house with the front neatly painted is like a pretty girl with a dirty neck. For several nights past, a veiled lady has haunted the Capitol Square and caused no end of discussion and speculation. She is a tall lady dressed in black and heavily veiled. She stands motionless under the trees and follows people who pass through the square.

100 YEARS AGO

Traveler who has been journeying considerably lately, was struck yesterday by the appearance of grounds about the Capitol building. They are now beautiful in arrangement.

70 YEARS AGO

Kee How, Carson Chinaman, was sentenced to spend one year in the Ormsby (Carson City) Jail by the federal court. He was found guilty of possession of narcotics last March.

50 YEARS AGO

District Judge Clark J. Guild, dean of Nevada's courts, disclosed today he plans to retire after 45 years of public service. He presided over the five-county first judicial district and was 66 years old March 13. His district, largest in the state, includes Ormsby (Carson City), Storey, Lyon, Douglas and Churchill counties.

20 YEARS AGO

Recent migration of doctors and other health care practitioners to rural Nevada has not kept pace with the state's increasing population, said Dean Robert M. Daugherty of the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

10 YEARS AGO

Douglas High School graduate awards included Christine Brown with John Ascuaga's Nugget, $1,000, Miss Douglas County $1,200 and UNR music $900.
